“Katie”

The Leigh Sakoda Foundation celebrated Leigh’s Birthday by making a very important grant to a 27 year old woman in New York who was diagnosed with cervical cancer.  She has been battling cancer for more than half of her life having been initially diagnosed with Leukemia at age 15.  She has had numerous bone marrow transplants through the years and now must fight a very rare and aggressive cancer very similar to the type Leigh faced.  Her mother has had to withdraw all of her 401k earnings to help pay for medical and housing expenses, and that has left her without any funds for retirement.  Her condition has worsened of late and this grant will help her pay for medical expenses required to make home care a more comfortable option, including a wheelchair, grab bars and railings, and hospital equipment for her bedroom and bathroom.
